Stephanie Mckay is a singer, songwriter and musician a resident of Harlem. Throughout her career, which spans over 20 years, she has collaborated with artists including Anthony Hamilton, Yasiin Bey ( formerly Mos Def), Talib quell, DJ Spinna, Roy Hargrove, Toshi Reagon and Big lovely, Jacques Schwarz-bart, Katalyst, Tricky, Carl hancock Rux, Kelis and more. Mckay has released several albums including her solo debut Mckay ( 2003, Go Beat/Poludor/ Universal) which was produced by portishead’s Geoff Barrow and Tim Saul, released in Europe to major critical acclaim. The Independent called the album…”the best soul debut since Macy Gray” and bal beat referred to McKay as ..” the saviour we need to drag rhythm back to its roots.” Her follow-up album Tell it like it is (2008, Pias/Muthas of Invention) was released worldwide. In 2008, she was featured on the standout hit ” Forget regret” from Roy Hargrove’s Grammy nominated RH factor ( alongside such luminaries as D’Angelo, Anthony Hamilton, Erykah Badu, and Common.) Equally at home on the stage or in the studio, Mckay has performed around the world…. Including Glastonbury ( UK), North Sea Jazz Festival ( Netherlands), and Solidays ( France) as well as two nation-wide tours in Australia and an unprecedented even-night stand in Greece. Most recently, Mckay collaborated on the “Vahana” with Light Blue Movers from eh album “atlas” released on Ropeadope records. She has completed a Live album recording at Joe’s Pub and is a resident artist of the Joe’s pub working group at the Public Theatre.
