Artist Bio

Melanie Futorian is a dancer/choreographer, camera woman and writer. As a dancer some of her performance and choreography experience includes an Ailey Summer Program, Forces of Nature,The Haitian American Dance Theatre, Ballet Theatre of Boston, Harlem Children’s Theatre Co., Harlem Village Academy, Manhattan Opera Company and other companies. Melanie wrote the book “Don Alias, Stories of a Legendary Percussionist” and has written featured biographies for, Dance Teacher Magazine and various publications. She’s sung with The Middle Gospel Choir backing up Cissy Houston at Carnegie Hall, for Deborah Harry and for the staged reading with Danny Glover,”Emmit Down in My Heart.” She’s been a camera woman and audio technician for The United Nations, CNN News, MTV, SNY, Harvard University and Fox News Channel. Melanie has photographed The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre, Martha Graham Dance Company, Paul Taylor Dance Company, Jose Limon, Mark Morris Dance Company and others as well as CD’s for Gil Evans Orchestra,David Sanborn,Arturo O’Farril and for Zo-Ho Records. She’s also photographed President Obama,The Secretary General, UN ambassadors and The Pope. Melanie is currently choreographing on Alvin Ailey students,photographing dance and music and editing her second book, “RUB.”
