Artist Bio

Fronted by gifted vocalist Jose Candelaria from the Dominican Republic, and led by pianist Victor Rendon, Grupo Descarrilao is a 7piece salsa band born out of the Latin Music Program at The Harbor Conservatory Of Performing Arts in Spanish Harlem. The bands sound is based in the long tradition of highly percussive and syncopated Afro-Cuban music and reflects the fusion of AfricanAmerican and Latino music in Harlem and NYC in the 1950’s, 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s. They have succeeded in bringing Latin music to an international audience. Mixed with electric guitar sounds reminiscent of Jimi Hendrix and Carlos Santana, Descarrilao plays music by artists like Héctor Lavoe, Celia Cruz, and Eddie Palmieri, as well as original music.
