Candice Segarra graduated from Manhattanville College, Purchase, NY in 2014 with a BA in Dance and Theatre and a minor in Communications on performing arts & community service scholarships. She has studied and performed theatre and many styles of dance for over 15 years including; ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, street jazz, musical theatre dance, modern, contemporary, salsa and African dance. Before college, she was accepted into a performing arts magnet high school where she attended in Connecticut. Candice has danced with a wide variety of renowned choreographers in various professional venues and festivals such as Disney World, Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival, Lincoln Center, New York City Center, in Italy and more. She dances with Connecticut commercial dance company, Double Up Dance Company: Team LEGGOO and as a freelance dancer and choreographer. Candice currently works as a PR & Marketing Coordinator at a prestigious NYC dance center. She also currently teaches hip hop in White Plains, NY and has taught ballet, tap, jazz, modern and contemporary for the last 3 years in studios throughout Westchester County and in the NYC Public School system. Candice’s choreographic work combines many elements of art into fusion. She is very heavily influenced by her love of hip hop history, culture and music that is fused with her technical training and undying love of poetry. Besides training in hip hop and contemporary for most of her life, Candice has been writing poetry since she was a child. She believes that sometimes one artistic direction is not enough to fully express oneself. In her recent work, Candice has been working on setting contemporary and hip hop movement to poetry and combining both styles of dance into a natural fluid motion. Trying to time every movement to a word and vice versa can be tedious, but she enjoys experimenting to make all the elements she is using come together to make one language. She looks forward to telling a collective story of New York City artists struggling to make it to their dreams.
