Lauren Desberg

Lauren Desberg has sung with Gibson-Baldwin Grammy Jazz Ensembles, the Brubeck Summer Jazz Colony, and performed at The Monterey and Playboy Jazz Festivals. Her latest EP received rave reviews and featured an all-star line-up that includes Gretchen Parlato, Josh Crumbly on bass (Terence Blanchard), Chris Smith on bass (Jeff ‘Tain’ Watts), and Corey Fonville on drums (Christian Scott, Nicholas Payton).

Samora Pinderhughes is a 22-year-old pianist and composer who recently graduated from Juilliard. Touring nationally with Jose James, Samora was most recently awarded the Peter Mennin prize, and Samora’s compositions have been recorded and played by Kenny Barron, John Santos, Benny Maupin, and others.

An internationally acclaimed hip-hop artist, AKIR is a member of a hip-hop artist/acitivist collective called Rebel Army (a.k.a. Rebel Arms). He has worked with Immortal Technique, 9th Wonder, Poison Pen, Diabolic, Swave Sevah, DJ Static, Lauryn Hill, A Tribe Called Quest, Wu-Tang, Nas, and has toured extensively, performing at such major American festivals as Rock The Bells, Van Warped Tour, Coachella, and more.

PopUp Theatrics (Hotel Project, Long Distance Affair, INSIDE) presents Broken City: HARLEM – an intimate theatrical exploration of the world-renowned neighborhood and center of African American culture through an immersive “choose-your-own-adventure” style expedition.

BROKEN CITY is a love letter to the city. Real life and theatre collide in this ‘street immersive’ that invites 9 audience members at a time to navigate the broken trails of stories and follow the characters who populate this famed and fabled neighborhood of Manhattan.
Conceived by PopUP Theatrics partners Ana Margineanu and Tamilla Woodard with collaborator Peca Stefan. Broken City received its pilot on the Lower East Side in NYC in July 2014. This summer Broken City will explore Harlem, in partnerships with Harlem Arts Festival and Rhymes Over Beats featuring collaborators from National Black TheatreLiberation Theatre Company, HARLEM 9, Betty’s Daughter Arts Collaborative,  
Starting Location will be verified prior to the event via email.  Show runs approximately 1 hour.
