Leah Tubbs

Artist Bio:

Leah Tubbs, a native of Birmingham, Alabama, studied dance at Alabama School of Fine Arts (ASFA) and the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa. She has been blessed to dance with Dayton Contemporary Dance Second Company (DCdC2), Cleveland Contemporary Dance Theatre (CCDT), Lula Washington Dance Theater, Project 21 Performing Arts Composite, L.A. Dancers and Choreographers, Donna Sternberg and Dancers, Jazz Ballet Company, Ballet Afrique, Jazz Ain’t Dead, and The Zifadanz Group. She is the founding artistic director of ModArts Dance Collective.

Leah’s work comes from a great desire to create a dialogue between artists and audiences through movement. She thrives on using dance as a narrative to discuss subjects that various people from all walks of life can understand and find a connection within their personal journeys of life. Her movement encompasses two things: technicality with a purpose and investigating the purpose/intention behind the movement to create an authentic experience during the creative and performance process for the artists and audience members.

Why do you want to participate in the Harlem Arts Festival?

Being a presenter/performer in the Harlem Arts Festival will give me artistic exposure in my neighborhood. It will provide an outlet for me to promote my dance program and dance company. It will educate and exposure me to local artists in the Harlem area.
