Harlem Symphony Orchestra
The Harlem Symphony Orchestra seeks to provide positive role models, to bring symphonic music to diverse communities, and to encourage youths of all ethnic origins to pursue careers in the field of classical music.
Through its various components, the HSO’s mission is to also conduct numerous interactive education and outreach programs, create new audiences and to promote greater African American involvement in the arts.
The Harlem Symphony Orchestra performs traditional symphonic work, in addition to music by African and African American composers, and features African American instrumentalists. We believe that our presence in the festival will continue the legacy of orchestral music in Harlem and highlight classical instrumentalists of African descent.
